The ACE2010 Conference

Your Family Physician is committed to providing you modern, innovative health care aided by advanced technology. We stay on the cutting edge of medicine by utilizing the tools provided by Allscripts, a leader in EHR solution industry.

At the beginning of August, they hosted their Allscripts Client Experience 2010 Conference in Las Vegas themed around "Go--the time is now to transform healthcare". At the opening address, their CEO challenged us to "go and create a connected community of health care of which we can be proud of." After a whirlwind three days of educational, 'hands-on' guidance, solution demonstration, and networking sessions, I returned to YFP motivated to do just that.

HITECH & Meaningful Use
As a part of the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009, the HITECH Act establishes programs under Medicare and Medicaid which are designed to provide incentives to medical professionals who successfully become "meaningful users" of an Electronic Health Record to help the nation improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient health care through promotion of health information technology (HIT). These programs begin in 2011.

What This Means for YFP
We will demonstrate Meaningful Use by:

optimizing our existing systems by upgrading to the newest available versions and provide continued training for our staff to ensure we are taking advantage of the best resources available.

Revise and update our HIPAA policies and procedures to meet the latest privacy and security regulations of health information exchange era.

Continue to meet regularly as a team and in small groups to analyze, resolve, and implement changes to meet the challenges of becoming a 5-Star Practice and demonstrating meaningful use (a healthier you!).

What This Means for You as a Patient of YFP

ACE2010: Some Final Thoughts
By attending the Allscripts Conference, I gained a sense of how unique and cutting-edge Your Family Physician is within Family Practice in embracing technological solutions for patient care. I am honored to work with a team who is dedicated to providing the best care possible from the largest concept (how we will improve our community's health) to the smallest detail (new trash cans for the waiting rooms!). And finally, I'm grateful for you, our patient, for choosing to be our partners in creating a connected community of health during the industry's single largest transformation in U.S. history.
