When Dr. Chettri was in 10th grade, he was inspired to become a physician when he knew he wanted to help care for the health of others. Born in Nepal, he went on to obtain his medical education from King George's Medical University, India and then completed a three-year post-graduate course in General Practice at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Katmandu, Nepal. Before immigrating to the United States, Dr. Chettri worked extensively at international medical relief organizations.
After arriving in Arizona, he completed his residency in Family Medicine at Phoenix Baptist Hospital and chose the specialty because he appreciates providing care to the "whole individual" in a medically-oriented way. He continues to dedicate time for International Health as the Chairman of the Board for the Refugee Immigration Relief Center and happens to also be the Founding President of the Bhutanese Community in Arizona.
In July 2009, Dr. Chettri joined Your Family Physician. He considers himself a jovial man who takes incredible pride in practicing medicine. He emphasizes the importance of caring for patients in a very kind, empathetic manner and wants them to know that he, "gives all of his best work to help his patients". To stay healthy, he recommends patients to "watch what they eat and exercise, at least 5 times per week".
One of the most unique events as a physician he has experienced involved a story about a very unique delivery. A woman arrived with normal labor symptoms but soon complications arose. Without the assistance of any diagnostic equipment, Dr. Chettri made the decision to perform a ceasarean delivery. He soon discovered the baby grew to full-term completely outside of the uterus--which only occurs in about about a .0003% of pregnancies. Miraculously, Dr. Chettri happily reports that both mom and baby survived and returned home healthy.
When Dr. Chettri is not seeing patients and assisting newly arrived refugees resettle, he likes to travel, enjoy nature, and listen to jazz and rock music.
